Supporting Our Military, Veterans, and Each Other

History of Blue Star Mothers
The formation of Blue Star Mothers has a unique history; created in 1942 in Flint Michigan after 300 mothers responded to a request in a newspaper, followed by an additional 1000 women. Blue Star Mothers was then chartered by Congress in 1960; To date, there are multiple chapters in every state of mothers who promote patriotism, support our troops, our veterans and are each other. No one understands what a Military Mother goes through more than another Military Mother.

Gold Star Mothers
Originating in WWI, families whose service member had died, would display a gold star in their window to acknowledge their lost loved one. In 1936, the last Sunday of September was designated as Gold Star Mothers Day.
Our Chapter Blue to Gold Liaison, Kay Fitzsimmons is honored to handle this responsible and in her own words, “When an active duty military member from our Upstate area dies, for whatever cause, their mother becomes a Gold Star Mother. Part of our mission as Blue Star Mothers is to never forget our Gold Star Mothers and families. Our tradition is to order the Blue to Gold banner and with the Casualty Assistance Officer, we present the banner to the family. It is such a blessing to me to be able to honor these fallen Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen or Marine. Without fail, these mothers and family member’s are so thankful and grateful to know their son or daughter will be forever honored.”
